How to Give Back this Holiday Season

It’s that time of year again!

The holiday season can be a tense time for many reasons. Many people want to help out the organizations that have done so much for their communities throughout the year, but they don’t quite know where to start; we get it! It can be SUPER overwhelming!

If you’re starting to think about how you might give back this year, here are a few ways that you could be of help to your favorite nonprofits!

Volunteer

If you have free hours that you don’t know what to do with, consider getting involved! This time of year there are usually a lot of events happening for nonprofits, from casual fundraisers to charity galas. Get in contact with your fave organizations and find out where they need some helping hands! Volunteering can be a way to provide a significant amount of support...and you might even have fun along the way!

Spread Awareness

Do you have a cause you are really passionate about? Talk about it! Friends, family, coworkers, acquaintances, your social media audience, strangers waiting in holiday lines and striking up a friendly conversation...word of mouth is HUGE for nonprofits and is the best kind of advertising.

90% of people are more likely to trust a brand that has been recommended to them personally, even if the recommendation comes from a stranger. That little conversation that may be so easy for you and brighten your day by sharing your joy can also have a big impact on your favorite organizations!

Host a Fundraiser

Don’t have time for volunteering in-person/don’t have any events in your area? Consider hosting a fundraiser of your own! Planning an event in your area can take significant time, so there may not be time for that this season--but you can always start thinking ahead to next year!

Meanwhile, we have one of the most convenient fundraising tools in our pocket: our cell phones! Facebook Fundraisers have made it easier than ever to raise money for our favorite causes. Consider setting one up to support your favorite organizations!

Giving Tuesday

You may have heard of Giving Tuesday before, but what is it?

Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and Black Friday. It’s considered “the world’s biggest day of generosity” and is an international giving movement to inspire people to do good; both in action and in financial support. Most (if not all!) of your favorite nonprofits will be hosting specific Giving Tuesday events to support their cause, so make sure you stay up to date with them to find out how you can help! Also check out your local businesses, as many will also host events where a percentage of proceeds will go directly to supporting local nonprofit organizations.

Whatever you choose to do, know that your kindness and support are much appreciated! We hope to be providing you and our communities with support for many years to come!
